84. PEEL THE TOP: Starting formation - Box Circulate or Z formation. Timing - 6 The lead dancer Peel Off as the trailing dancers step straight forward and take adjacent hands; everyone then does a Fan the Top.

TEACHING HINTS:

The above definitions assumes two things: (1) dancers are familiar with Peel Off, (2) that dancers are familiar with Fan the Top.
The callers should not make these assumptions. Before teaching Peel the Top, dance the dancers through a few routines using both of these calls. If either of the two calls give any problems, the caller should review the definition of that call. It is suggested that the caller position the dancers in a Z formation.

Example: Heads Square Thru, Swing Thru, Girls Fold) Explain to the dancers that the Lead person will Peel, turning away from the center of their foursome 180 degrees. The Trailing person will step forward making sure they join inside hands with the other Trailing person. Tell outside person to take a look at the person beside them. In just a minute they will Circulate 1/4 in their foursome to join hands with that person. With the now joined hands of the center dancers have them to turn (Cast Off) 3/4. Dancers have a problem with turning 3/4. If the callers is using the above formation, he/she can tell the center dancers to take three normal steps OR the dancer that is facing out will stop when they can form a momentary wave down the center with the others in the square.

After the center dancers have turned 3/4, have the end dancer to locate the dancer that was beside them before they moved. Now that dancer will move up to join hands with that dancer. If the above formation is used, the ending will be End to End Waves.

This call can also be used from a Box Circulate. Example: Heads Square Thru, Touch 1/4. Working in their own foursome (like a Split Circulate) the lead dancer will Peel, turning away from the dancer beside them, then Circulate 1/4. The Trailing dancer will move forward to join hands with the other dancer and turn 3/4.
