90. GRAND SWING THRU: Starting formation - Tidal Wave, Ocean Wave of Six Dancers. Those who can turn by the right one-half (180 degrees), then those who can turn by the left one-half (180 degrees). If "right" is not specified preceding the command to Grand Swing Thru, it is understood to be a right-handed Grand swing Thru. If Grand Left Swing Thru is required, it must be specifically directed - "Grand Left Swing Thru", in which case, those who can turn by the left one-half (180 degrees), then those who can turn by the right one-half (180 degrees).

The caller should establish end to end Waves. Chances are that the dancers have been use to doing Swing Thru from this formation. The caller should emphise that these are end to end Waves until the caller uses a call that will convert the end to end lines into a Tidal Wave. Have the very centers to join hands. When all eight dancers are touching another's hand, this makes it a Tidal Wave. The now formed Tidal Wave will remain until the caller uses a call that will require the dancers to work in their groups of four dancers. Explain to the dancers that any call that has the word “Grand” in it means that all eight dancers will do the call at the same time. Grand Swing Thru is a call where all eight dancers will work together. Remind the dancers that any Swing Thru will begin with the right hand. If the caller wants the dancers to start with the left hand he/she will say LEFT before the call. Explain to the dancers that Grand Swing Thru is like a Swing Thru in that the dancer turns by the right or left if they can.

Walk the call. Tell the dancers to turn 1/2 by the right, all those who can turn by the Left. Note to them that the end dancers can not turn by the left. Note to them that the very centers are able to execute the left arm turn.

As the dancers were taught in Left Hand Waves, the call Grand Swing Thru will always start with the Right hand. The caller should position the dancers in a Left Tidal Wave and call both Grand Swing Thru, making sure that the dancers that can start with the right hand, and a Left Grand Swing Thru, again making sure that the dancers that can start with the Left Hand. Since it is possible to execute Grand Swing Thru from a Wave of six dancers, the caller can establish this formation. The call is executed the same as indicated above with the dancers that can first turn by the directed arm then those that can turn by the other arm. Remind the dancers that it is understood to be a Right - Handed Grand Swing Thru unless directed to do a Left Grand Swing Thru.
