80. FOLLOW YOUR NEIGHBOR: Starting formation - Box Circulate. Dancers facing in release hands with the person next to them (their "neighbor") and step straight forward, join adjacent forearms with the one they meet, and turn three-quarters (270 degrees) to become centers of a new wave. At the same time, the dancers facing out follow their "neighbors" by moving forward in a three quarter looping turn (270 degrees), turning towards their "neighbor" to finish adjacent to their "neighbor" as the ends of the new ocean wave. When done from right-hand boxes, the dancers facing in turn by the right hand and the dancers facing out loop around right-face, to finish in a left-hand ocean wave.

When done from left-hand boxes, the dancers facing in turn by the left-hand and the dancers facing out loop around left-face, to finish in a right-hand ocean wave.

Teaching Hints:

Getting the dancers to a box 1-4 (Heads Square/Thru: then Touch 1/4.) I mention to them that the definition says "Starting formation--box circulate--this actually means a "Circulating Box" in Parallel Ocean Waves we have side by side Circulating boxes. There are 4 in each box when we split the square in half. Telling the centers of the wave to let go with each other to recognize their boxes. The first thing is to reemphasize, Leaders and Trailers. this is something I stress earlier in lessons. Once again I tell them the ones facing in are the "Trailing dancers" the ones facing out are the "Leading dancers" and in your box of 4 the one beside you (the one you should be touching) we will call your "Neighbor". Proceeding to tell the dancers facing in (Trailers) to step ahead (as in like a "Scoot Back") when they meet they will join adjacent arms (as in like a "Scoot Back") turn 1/2 by the adjoining arm (as in like a "Scoot Back") BUT now unlike a Scoot Back Turn 1/4 more making their turn 3/4's (270 degrees). To become the centers of a new wave.

Meanwhile the dancers facing out (Leaders) will (as in a Scoot Back)will flip/or/roll over to the "Neighbor's Spot" But unlike a Scoot back they will roll 1/4 more in the same direction to become the ends of a new wave. At this point I say folks as you have noticed I have referred to Scoot Back all through the explanation. So we might say that "Follow your Neighbor" is some what of Scoot Back and 1/4 Quarter more as long as the in facing dancers stay together and do not make the last "Extend as in a Scoot Back.

Also as in the definition explain results from a right hand box as verses a left hand box and dance both.

Without delay the caller should get the dancers out of waves an into boxes to dance this figure so they don't relate it to Ocean waves only. From the box 1-4 call Slide Thru then "Touch 1/4". In your boxes (giving them a time to recognize their boxes) call "Follow your Neighbor" resulting in a Grand Left Handed Tidal wave. From a Static Square Heads touch 1/4 and centers (Heads) Follow your Neighbor.

It is suggested you call it after a Box circulate or any equivalent there of, so the positions will change, meaning the girls well be the in facers (Trailers) and the boys will be the out facers (Leaders). How much or how far you can go on the first teach will be determined by the quality of your presentation and dancers ability.
